Marketing Redefined – Part 7 of 7

The last, yet vital piece, in our discussion on the Seven Principles of Modern Marketing isn’t a high-tech tool or online marketing dashboard. The last piece in this puzzle is you. You, as your company’s leader, must shift your mindset and fully embrace the first six principles in order for any of them to succeed.

Shifting Your Mindset
By shifting and redefining your mindset and that of all upper management throughout your organization, you take these new principles from simple strategies to firmly held beliefs that become integral pieces of your corporate culture. Strategies fail without passion and conviction, and instilling passion and conviction starts at the top. In short: “Do as I say, not as I do,” is as much a failed method in business as it is in parenting. Lead by example and show your team why you’re right.

One of the best ways to start demonstrating this shift in your mindset is by discussing it with your team in the most emphatic, positive, passionate terms. Don’t issue a memo on a corporate policy change. Call a team meeting and motivate your staff. Demonstrate how genuinely vested you are in their careers, your company, and your customers. Be emphatic in your beliefs that your new perspective is not a mandate, but rather a new way of doing business for all of you as a team. Reinforce that the more cohesive your corporate culture is, the better success you’ll experience, and the more rewards your staff will reap.

Gandhi said we must, “Be the change you wish to see in the world,” and so it is in business; you must be the change you wish to see in your company, your staff, and your future. Lead by passionate example, and watch those changes happen.
